Begin your Azerbaijan getaway as you land at Heydar Aliyev International Airport in Baku. Meet your friendly driver on arrival and set out on a comfortable transfer to your hotel, where you can check in and settle down. As the rest of the day entirely yours, relax or step outside for your first taste of Baku.
Today, you’ll head out to explore Baku, a city known for its exceptional blend of centuries-old heritage and bold modern architecture. Kick off your journey in the atmospheric Old City (Icheri Sheher), Baku’s UNESCO-listed historic heart, complete with ancient walls, narrow lanes, and structures buildings that stand still in time.
Pause for photographs at two of its most celebrated landmarks, the Palace of the Shirvanshahs and the iconic Maiden Tower. Leaving the Old City behind, experience the capital’s modern side as you make your way to Nizami Street, a quarter overflowing with shops, beautiful architecture, cafés, and energetic atmosphere. Continue to Fountains Square, one of Baku’s favorite hangout spots, before stopping at Baku’s striking modern identity, the Heydar Aliyev Center.
Designed by renowned architect Zaha Hadid, its sweeping curves and futuristic, almost fluid appearance make it one of the city’s most stunning architectural landmarks. Stop outside for photographs and admire its extraordinary design before winding up your sightseeing and returning to your hotel.
The day’s major highlight is an exciting journey across the Absheron Peninsula, where Azerbaijan’s age-old association with fire unfolds before you. Start at Ateshgah, the Fire Temple, a remarkable 17th- and 18th-century complex that was once a prominent place of worship for Hindu and Zoroastrian worshippers. Enter its atmospheric courtyard to see the historic cells and distinctive central fire altar, and hear fascinating stories that have shaped this intriguing site over the centuries.
Next, tour Yanar Dag, also known as the “Burning Mountain,” a must-see on the Absheron Peninsula. Watch natural gas escape through the earth and keep flames flickering continuously across the hillside, creating a surreal spectacle. Experience for yourself why Azerbaijan has earned its legendary reputation as the “Land of Fire,” as you take in this natural phenomenon. Return transfer to your accommodation is included.
After hotel check-out, meet your driver for a comfortable transfer to Heydar Aliyev International Airport, arriving in time for your departure flight. As you depart, take home prized memories of your Baku holiday.
